Polygamist Sect Custody Fight, Texas polygamist cult wins

With the polygamist sect custody fight the Texas cult won in the court of appeals.  As they should have. What was done to the families in the cult was illegal and against the United States Constitution. Yes, I think child abuse is a crime that should be punished by death.

Make no mistake, I think, and my opinion ought to count a lot because I too was a sexually abused child, that sexual abuse of a child should be punished by the most painful death imaginable. Of that I have no doubts but there is a but. To do that you must catch them in the act.

We are a nation of laws. To be a world leader that’s respected, we, as a nation, must respect our own laws. The law, in this case, was broken by the state of Texas and their social services dept. The fact of the matter is that if we are to remain a nation of laws we must obey our own laws. Whether we like them or not.

While I may respect the law I think it likely the children are abused but I’m not mad at the court over it’s ruling. If I’m mad at anyone it’s the Texas dept. of Social Services and the people in and in charge of the system who allowed this to happen.

You can’t just run off, break the law and then say you did it for the kids so it was legal. While what may have been happening to the children was a calamity what is happening to them now because of the illegal actions of the parties involved, is a huger catastrophe.

What we have here is the classic battle of doing what people think is the right thing and doing what is the legal thing. The state and the nation have to obey their own laws. That’s a must if we are to remain a civilized society. However, to those willing to break the law to do the right thing and who full well know the consequences of their actions, I make no judgements. The problem is deciding what is the right thing.

Not everything legal is right, not everything illegal is wrong. So every now and then, in the past, I’ve disobeyed the law to do the right thing. Matter of fact it’s why I’m an ordained minister. There is but one rule of my church and that’s “Do the RIGHT thing”.

But what’s the right thing? Bombing abortion clinics and killing people to stop abortions is not the right thing. It’s one groups opinion of the right thing but according to their beliefs It’s also going to send them to hell because killing is against Gods law.

So what do I think is the right thing? Hard to say as it depends on circumstances, most of the time. I guess I’d give the following as an example. If I saw a man on the street beating a woman I wouldn’t think twice about right or wrong, I’d stop it and if I had to break a few of his bones, accidentally, to stop it, well, bummer. If I get charged with being to violent in my defense of the woman, so be it. It’s a price I’ll pay. Heh, I don’t think anymore of men who beat women than I do of child molestors. It’s still picking on a weak victim.

While I may hate what’s happen with the polygamist cult in Texas I will always think the Texas Court of Appeals did the right thing. You can’t remove 440 plus children from their homes on the word of an anonymous tip.

Imagine of one of your neighbors didn’t like you and called in about you and your 4 children, anonymously, and the police and social services came and took your children away with no investigation of the call or of you? How would you feel about the law then?

People against the Texas court decision about the polygamist sect can’t see that it’s what could happen to them without the protection the Appeals court cited. It’s almost proof that anger and logic don’t go hand in hand. Social Services has to much power the way it is and get away with a lot of things they shouldn’t. Kinda like the IRS but that’s a different thing.

Some days the law sucks and some days it doesn’t. This day it sucked. It’s all sad for the children, even for the children of a polygamist cult.
