I think we over use the word ‘hero’ so much that we can no longer have any heros. Perhaps, just perhaps, we have to many heros.
I’ve heard almsot everyone with a job called a hero for one reason or another. Tonight I heard it about a first grade teacher and I thought it was absurd. The woman is no more a hero than I am. MOF I probably have more right to the claim than she does.
Remember when the word ‘hero’ meant someone who did something heroic? When it took a genuine hero to get the Medal of Honor. When it was a firefighter running into a burning building to save some kids or a whole family. When it was a cop who stood up to corruption in the police force.
Remember when it meant something to be a hero? People looked up to you and had nothing but praise, respecy and good wishes. Remeber when if someone said “The guys a hero” There were only a couple of people in the running.
Now that everyone, and anyone, can be a hero just for doing their job it makes all of us heros and totally diminishes the term into a generic. Sorta like what happened with Kleenex tissue. It’s to bad.
I suppose it’s politically correct for everyone to be a hero because it’s good for their self esteem. Heh, that’s why grades have gone up and the failure rate at school has gone down. It’s good for their self esteem when they all pass.
Yeah, right, that’s what got us where we are today. Now that we’re all heros who do we look up to? Each other? Yeah, right, that’ll work well. Me, I’ll keep mine, he’s not quite superhuman but he’s not quite human either.
With him, I agree, logic rules. Thank you Mr. Spock
Uh, yes, I know, he’s not real. Get it?
