I was just sitting here thinking that one of the better things congress could do to help the economy was to raise the minimum wage to at least a sustenance level. It’s so low now that anyone still working for the absolute minimum wage won’t be much longer as they can’t afford to buy gas to get to work.
The point is the economy sucks, we are in a recession and it’s going to get worse. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear the word depression being bandied about in the coming months. We, as a country, are a ways from hitting bottom.
Besides layoffs at auto plants the service industry is laying people off at a much higher than normal rate. Gas prices show no signs of leveling off anytime soon. Lol, eventually they have to as the free market will kick in during the coming worldwide depression and no govt will have to make any rules or provide any subsidies.
I see little the govt can do to make the problem go away or even slow it down. The govt can’t keep giving tax rebates forever without causing more inflation than what we have now.
If you’re working and just barely making ends meet I’d suggest you quickly find a part time job in a recession proof part of the economy. I’d also suggest you stop using so much gas and do what you have to do to save all the money you can. You’re going to need it.
The people who can’t get to work because they work at minimum wage and can’t buy gas and food at the same time will give up working and go on welfare as it’s soon going to be better than having a minimum wage job. If employers want to keep their employees coming to work they are going to have to raise wages and oops, their goes more price hikes.
However minimum wage will be far above what congress thinks it should be and all without them lifting a finger. It’s kinda nice to see the Republicans get screwed by their own stupidity for a change.
I suspect the Bush administration will go down in history as one of the worst, if not the worst, administration of all time. They aren’t even as good as the do nothings were as they are do everything wrongers. They couldn’t have done thinngs any worse if they’d done it on purpose. Hmmm, maybe they did.
