The republicans say they believe in small leaner goct with less govt interference in business and peoples lives. Well, I believe you can trace back the current financial troubles directly to deregulating banks, investement, and insurance companies.
The credit card companies and othe business sectors wanted to make it harder to file bankruptcy so they finagled congress into passing a new bankrupcy law years back and they also got more of what they wanted. Less regulation and oversight of banks and financial instutions.
A lack of rules and regulations is what has allowed the currect economic crisis and we are now paying for it with our tax dollars. Someone please tell me how credit card companies can get away with charging 25-33% interest on credit cards. A few decades back this would have gotten you put into prison for loan sharking.
Isn’t deregulation a wonderful thing. Has your food made you or someone you know, sick? Blame that on the republicans and their non interference also. To save tax money so they could shovel it to their friends in big business the govt cut way back on inspectors. Fewer inspectors means less safe food and more people getting sick or dying from eating bad food.
As long as no one cares or regulates business can run roughshod over everyone, like they have done. This is the major cause of the problems we are having now. Hell, you can even blame global climate change on the govt hands off of big business profits, policy.
Less govt regulation of big business is what got us into this mess. Taking care of the country should be the highest priority, not taking care of big business. I’d suggest that if your senator or representative voted for the current bailout pkg, you know, the pork filled bill with tax benefits for rum drinkers and other assorted lunacy that is supposed to help the greedy wall street firms that caused the mess, you vote for their opponent.
Yes, smaller govt is a good thing but a govt so small it can’t protect its people from greedy predators like the firms going belly up on wall street is not a govt at all, it’s a rubber stamp for big business wants.
We don’t need that. We need regulations to protect the people of America, not the big businesses of America.
