Website blocked by the Chinese

Website blocked by the Chinese. Hmmm, I know, presumptuous of me to assume the Chinese give a fat rats ass for anything I might have to say. I guess it depends on how sensitive they are but I guess I’d consider it somewhat of a honor if this site was blocked by the Chinese.

Besides, what is the Chinese govt so afraid of? Nothing but ideas. The idea of being able to vote for the govt leaders. The idea of clean air? I’m not quite sure what they are afraid of.

However I do know what they aren’t afraid of. They sure aren’t afraid of looking like damn fools. While the Olympic opening ceremony was fantastic I wouldn’t call the rest of the things I’ve seen about China, good things. Bad air, bad manners, bad attitude and the funny thing is their attitude about it all causes the very problem it’s trying to solve.

Closer scrutiny and a little more in depth reporting about China. Exactly what they didn’t want to happen. For the people they are holding or intimidating it’s a bigger victory than if they’d been allowed to hold protests or talk to people from other countries.

People being held against their will when they haven’t committed a crime gets peoples attention a lot more than another protest. I don’t think the average person pays all that much attention to protests appearing on the news, anymore. Once, it used to be interesting, but, we’ve seen so many it got old hat.

We get much more concerned when people are jailed and they haven’t committed a crime. It may be a way of life in some countries but here in the USA it still gets some attention. Having had freedom so long we are pretty vigilant about anything that might remove some of that freedom or allow the govt to do those kinds of things.

Oh wait, we are doing that. I keep forgetting, we caved and Bush lead us over to the dark side. We now hold people with out anything but the govts word, we don’t tell people the charges against them we don’t allow them access to lawyers and we torture them.

What’s China doing that we aren’t doing ourselves?

No, I’m not going to go live in China. ;) Why not? For the exact same reason the Chinese block websites they find objectionable. We aren’t perfect but we are still one of the best places on this earth.
