Gasoline price history and world gasoline prices

Heh, gasoline price history Is not good. The world gasoline prices just keep going up, up, up. There is no such thing as cheap gasoline in my area, nor probably in anyone else’s area. With China becoming more modernized and needing more oil, prices are just going to keep going up.

Way back in the 60’s I bought gas in Omaha, Nebraska for 11 cents per gallon.  Of course it ws during a price war. Lol, bet we don’t see one of them for a long time to come. The actual price of gas at the time was 17 to 19 cents per gallon. Now the gas tax is more than that. Hmm, fuel costs almost as much now as a barrel of oil did back then.

One thing you can do to ease prices and one of the things I did to improve my gas mileage was check diffent brands of gas to see what knd of mileage I got from each brand.  Compared to the others Shell gasoline came out a couple of miles per gallon better than WalMart, Conoco, Valero and the rest.

I even got a Shell gas card to save a couple of more cents per gallon. You can also get prepaid gas cards at Walmart for their gas stations. Really it’s just a Walmart gift card but when I use one here I get a 3 cent per gallon discount over their price, which happens to be the lowest in town.

I get so much better gas mileage with shell gas that the Walmart price is still more than the Shell price, even with Walmarts lower price and discount for the gas card. It helps to have tested all the stations and mileage. Walmart gas has to be about 25 cents cheaper to equal the same cost at Shell on a cost of gas per mile basis.

For most people trading in a low gas mileage car you owe mony on for a newer, more fuel effecient model that you finance, isn’t to smart. While you may save some money at the pump, your cost per mile to drive the new car is going to be much higher than to keep the old one.

Higher finance charges, a longer term, higher insurance, etc. make this out to be not a good deal. However if you have an oler vehicle that is paid for and gets lousy gas mileage you might be wiser to trade if the cash you need to add to get the different used vehicle works out right.

In 2006 gas was getting very high and I had a Chevy Silverado that was getting about 12-14 mpg. I knew I needed to get a different vehicle because it was irritating to be paying that much to fill up my 34 gallon tank. So I started looking around.

I found a 2001 Pontiac Aztek that got 26 mpg and they wanted $3000.00 and my truck as trade in. Then I figured out how many miles I’d have to drive the Aztek to break even. With gas at right around 2 bucks or so it would take about 1500 gallons of gas to break even. 1500 gallons equals about 40,000 miles of driving to break even.

I’ve driven it farther than that so I came out ahead in the long run. However that wouldn’t have worked near as well if I’d have had to finance it. Yes, fule and gas prices are high and going to go higher but buying a brand new car that gets better gas mileage isn’t always the solution.

Do the math before you waste a ton of money buying a more fuel effecient vehicle. If you don’t you may get a car or truck that gets better gas mileage but the higher payments will be more than you save in gas. That’s not a way to save money even tho it seems like it is.

Gas is high and the future for world gas prices is even higher. Lol, I’d suggest a small, high mileage scooter as an alternative to be used for trips around town. You can get a gas or electric scooter for 1500 bucks or less and leave your gas guzzler parked.

The money the scooter would cost is probably less than the finance charges on a new, higher gas mileage car would be. Oh, and fill the scooter with Shell gasoline to see if it gets the best mileage for you.
